Target MDGs Volunteers Cetak E-mail

This committed team works with us day by day on different tasks our program has. With their optimism and responsibility they have shown us that people all over the world is wheeling to dedicate some of their busy time to help us achieve the Millennium Goals in Indonesia. They not only support our work, but also make several suggestions and contribute with great ideas to help us socialize the MDG’s.

Let’s read what they have to say about the MDG’s.

 Ancilla Yinny Akanti Irwan:

“As many people said, MDGs are too idealistic, especially for many developing countries and of course poor countries. Instead of debating whether this is only a pessimistic opinion or justification of laziness, it is better to fight our best. I personally believe that these goals can be reached with good cooperation of many parties including lay people like me. So lets we, hand-in-hand, do our parts!”

 Elly Tjin:

"Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) is part of UNDP to promote poverty reduction, education, maternal health, gender equality, aim at combating child mortality, AIDS and other diseases. Set to achieve these goals by the year 2015, UNDP have partners at regional and national levels, worked together for change to support the goals. To support this effort, a comprehensive set of services have been designed

These services focus on three pillars:
- MDG-based diagnostics and investment planning (technical and financial assistance needed to achieve the MDGs over the long term)
- Widening policy options and choices (sectoral and cross-sectoral policy reforms and frameworks needed to accelerate growth with equity and promote long-term human development); and
- Strengthening national capacity (enable effective service delivery at the national and local levels)."

 Umedjon Qudratzadeh:

"I am interested in Southeast Asia region since I have been first in 2004-2005 in Indonesia. Till present I was researching political trends of the region in whole and Indonesia in particular. I looked to the region from different angle and successfully finished my research in June 2006. MDG experience that I had recently with Indonesian-English translation gave me another dimensions that I did not consider before, social level research made by different intellectuals and researchers. Very likely social level researches shall play an important role to simplify an achievements of UN millennium development goals and encourage mass participation of the society in the process"

 Vanderawati Ngui (VANDRA):

“I think Indonesia will face a difficult challenges ahead, especially in this global financial crisis. However, it won't be impossible to achieve MDGs as long MDGs are interpreted locally and should involve all the people, from town to the villages throughout Indonesia archipelago, even though the idea (MDGs) was generated globally.”

 Hamed Y.S. Kouroum:

"The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set out a group of objectives to assist under-developed countries toward sustainable development, improved education, and reduced poverty in the regions of concern by the year 2015. Although the mentioned objectives represent a fragment of the intended goals established by the United Nations (UN) in 2000, their relevance in creating a sturdy foundation toward realistic, effective, and sustained development through the access to proper sanitation, through the empowerment of women in the concerned societies, and through the preservation of our global environment is undeniable. The task to meet these objectives in time is pressing, demanding, and challenging in a variety of aspects; yet every effort counts towards fulfilling the MDGs within pre-established schedule. This is a primary reason for my dedicating time to volunteering with the UN, as I fervently believe everyone of us can place a “symbolic stone” in the voyage to improving the livelihood of the citizens of the poorest countries. There are innumerable ways anyone can assist, so place your stone, be a UN Volunteer"

 Joane Wong:

“As a marine biologist and keen nature lover, I see the intricate connection between the MDGs and achieving sustainability and environmental conservation. Only with education, social justice and equality can we truly teach and practice sustainable development. Likewise, without a healthy and intact environment, we will not be able to achieve the MDGs of economic and human development.”

 Heru Aja:

“I think that the most important point to achieve MDGs are assist the communities to establish link with government and provide an access to government, and ensure  voice of poor people can be heard immediate to them, it is not easy goals to achieve but "together we can".

 Ria Noviari Butarbutar:

“I personally view that the Indonesia's involvement in the MDGs may be highly beneficial when the country can make use of its commitment so that the goals become a dynamics benchmark it can refer to related to the achievement of the development goals. The eight agenda should be seen as inter-related challenges with relatively equivalent significance to be dealt with and be perceived as personal goals of every human being for contributing to humankind."

 Tatum O'KEMBARA:

"With the birth control, the number of people demanding for their basic needs will be controlled and therefore, easier to meet. There will be enough free schools for all the children. This will, in the long run, reduce unemployment and therefore reduce poverty, and eventually reduce hunger and homelessness. Isn’t that the whole goal of MDG?"

 Oktavia Sidharta:

"MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) have correctly addressed the world's main development challenges. For me, MDGs are noble goals. By taking my home country (Indonesia) as an example, I can see that the government is taking MDGs seriously. Unfortunately, not all Indonesian citizens know about MDGs. I experimented with google to know how popular MDGs are in Indonesia, even though it may not be used as a reference. I googled "Tujuan Pembangunan Millennium" (Indonesian word for MDGs) and found 35,100 entries.  When I googled "Tujuan Pembangunan Nasional" (National Development Goals), I found 407,000 entries."

 Ahmad Yunus Andaro WS:

“MDG's was one of many UN program that have my full support, the MDG2015, from my point of view, is a world-wide project with eight magnificent program. All of them was answer to all major problem in the world. To anybody who read my opinion, please support MDG's  Project with all your heart. Regards”.

Wulan Handrajati:

“Many of MDG goals are very profound and really open my eyes to the current state of the world.  Quantifiable measures and progress are really needed to really foster meaningful development in the countries that need it the most. The initiatives are taking some of the most pressing issues in the developing and least-developed countries. I feel very fortunate to be able to take a small part in promoting MDG and increasing awareness.”

 Andry Yudha Kusumah:

“Indonesia beyond 2015 should base its poverty measurement on relative poverty rather than the absolute poverty, as of now. There are indications that the regencies are moving towards this direction, such as ideas to measure poverty in terms of not just physical but also in spiritual manner. There for Indonesia central government should really reconsider to shift it poverty line from just based on income, to be based on expenditure and access, and go through necessary governance reform that in the end made Indonesian citizen as an active citizen for the country and for the world. Proper measurement will bring an optimal problem resolution.”

 Louis-Andre Fortin:

“The Millennium Development Goals are a concrete initiative to elevate the standard of living of the world's population. I feel pride to be part of an initiative to help implement the MDGs in a tangible way and I am thankful for the opportunity to contribute my abilities to this cause.”

 Dwitya Ardhani Putri:

“I thing MDG’s is a very good program because its propose to solve majority of   developing countries’ problem and try to find the solutions of the problems. We all know that this is not as simple as we thought to reach out the goals. I hope we can take part of this program with our own way and let us hope this millenium development goals will finished on 2015 for the better future of this world. “

 Isabelle Bouanna:

“As far as my view on the Millennium Development goals, I think those goals should be present in the head of all inhabitants of our world. To me, fulfilling those goals is the way we can attain global peace, the way we can make our world a better place for each one of us and for the generations to come.”

 Anna-Louise Strachan:

“The MDGs provide us with an opportunity to combat the problems, which keep so many people in extreme poverty. Achieving these goals will create a better future for millions of people worldwide. It is important for governments, international organisations and individuals alike to play a part in the eradication of poverty. This can be achieved by ensuring that as many people as possible are aware of the MDGs and work towards realising them.”

 S. Summer Johansson:

“The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) outline complex and severe problems that many face in the world today.  Regardless of nation, gender, and colour, there are no boundaries to which poverty, hunger, inequality, illness, mortality, and even lack of education affect.  The MDGs are a vital focus on such issues.  It helps in the communication between people and nations to work together in accomplishing these common goals. It is the responsibility of every human being on this planet to help, in whatever possible way, in achieving success towards the prescribed goals of the MDGs by the year 2015."

 Erica Wijarnako:

"My opinion on MDG's: MDGs summarize important efforts that should be done by all government to improve human quality of living. It needs a long term commitment and is a full time job, thus it needs to be implemented in national, or even local policies in order to work. Since the implementation of MDGs will affect the grass-roots, the involved parties should give enough information to common people on how to reach MDGs. By implementing MDGs, we will help ourselves and others to have a better living. So, to achieve the MDGs, there has to be cooperation and coordination between and among governments in all level, grass-roots, and other parties such as UN."

 Ananda Ivannanto Setiyo:

"MDG can be the benchmark of benchmark of development agendas for this planet earth. For such a long time many people had strive for a global standard to achieve a planet livable for any kinds of human beings regardless of the diversity of its cultures, norms, values, believes, and races. Through the support of the global society, with the notion of togetherness, not nation competitiveness, achieving MDGs can be a dream come true!"

Jessica Sallabank:

"The MDGs are essential in a world where the disparity between the rich and the poor remains unacceptably large.  Every human being should have the right to adequate food, shelter, healthcare and education, and all governments have a duty to ensure these goals are met by 2015.  With both adults and children dying daily from easily preventable diseases, efforts to provide healthcare and to eradicate global poverty and hunger are well overdue and should be supported by us all."

 Melisa Ciputra:

"Having goals to eliminate extreme poverty and elevate living condition and the environment is not only great but also necessary.
However, government cannot reach these goals alone. In fact, a country might not even able to do this alone.
This is why anyone like you and I should lend a hand! Can we afford to be indifferent?"

 Leonhard Nima:

"The Millennium Development Goals play the leading role in the fight against the most devastating and severe problems the world is facing today.
Organizations like Target MDG's make it easy for me and other people around the world to support promising projects like P3BM in Indonesia, which have the ability to generate a long-term positive impact towards the achievement of the MDG's.
For me it is a great opportunity to support a team of committed and dedicated individuals, who all share the common goal to improve the lives of poor people in Indonesia."

 Carlos Perez Rojas:

“The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are targets that remind us of the main issues that affect the world and by having a defined deadline, the year 2015, progress can be tracked in a tangible way. The MDGs serve as a commitment that the humanity has against fighting its biggest afflictions. As volunteers we are part of that effort and we have to do everything in our power to help our fellow countries achieve sustainable development.”

 Tekad Matulatan:

“Millennium Development Goals intend to help the third world or developing countries to improve their countries against the social, economic and environmental problems. Helping by giving just fund will not solve the problems, while combination with educating the people so they can improve themselves could effectively eradicate the problems in their environment in more sustainable process.
Some say the world in the future is shape by the action today and so the socio-economic problems in some countries could accumulate to bigger problems that greatly impact the other countries in the future."

 Heidi Vivian:

"Though I have no first hand experience with the success or potential shortcomings of the Millennium Development Goals, I strongly support them.  I believe they have provided us with great opportunity; to find parity in a world that is afflicted by a widening gap of inequality between the global north and south. Investing in and supporting the sustainable paradigms of development that the MDG’s embody, and to ensure that these goals are reached, is one of the greatest responsibilities facing the global community today."

 Jennifer McGavin:

“The United Nations Millennium Development Goals are important in that they bring attention to the basic necessities of life in the modern world and to the fact that not everyone has access to these necessities.
Although these goals are not met by any nation, it is the poorer nations which are taking the steps to improve their situation, while wealthier countries are ignoring their own challenges of poverty, disease and gender inequality. Itis important for the people who are evaluating the success of MGDs in their countries to continue to do so, and bring MDGs to the attention of as many people as possible, via the internet and other media. Only by consistently reminding the world's citizens of their privileges and their duties, will we be able to keep moving forward towards these goals.”

 Shripadraj Mujumdar:

”There is need to configure an integrated value system at individual level which is achievable through campaigns and having a scale operation to promote such values such that there is international understanding on how a contribution towards the development goal can be seen as higher recognition in society. This particular aspect also amounts to change at individual level towards a more matured state where in there is lesser conflict, greater commitment and more satisfaction at individual level. Thus when We also educate, orient and calibrate affluent class to be in resonance , the collective rhythm can make all difference.”

 Prasanta Kumar Basa:

“It’s a Great opportunity for me to be part of such a dedicated and responsible team. I feel proud to be a part of a project and work for MDG’s . It’s a great step. My best wishes to the whole team for a successful project and would wish to work with them in future.”

 Michael Martin:

"I believe to be truly human, one must have their basic needs met for food, clean water, adequate shelter, health, and access to educational and employment opportunities – all without regard to gender, race, ethnicity, or religion. Until then, one is unable to enjoy what it fully means to be a human being. I feel that the MDGs hold governments, business, and societies responsible for bringing this about through realistic and measureable outcomes."

 Thorsten Stark:

"For me it's obvious that my country is a very well developed country which offers me a lot of oppertunities. But as a matter of fact, it's  also obvious that a lot of people in the world are not as lucky as I am.Therefore I want to help these peoples with my gained abilities and knowledge as my little contribution to the MDG's.To me helping is an important part of living together. UN Volunteer Programme helps me contribute to the MDG's and thus helps me helping others. "

Shan Maraj:

"The MDGs are a fantastic opportunity to bring about real change and transform the lives of people in developing countries Being healthy, having adequate nourishment and receiving a good education are basic human rights and it is the duty of every government to provide these for their citizens.
The MDGs therefore focuses the leadership in developing countries on these issues and the initiatives and projects they need to embark on and helps them identify the risks, challenges and opportunities that lie ahead."

Sitra Radliyah:

"I think MDG is a noble idea containing essential actions needed to undo the situations us humans put ourselves into in the first place.
But while billions are still oblivious, in denial, or can only wallow, barely a fraction of the world's population is taking actual actions to "undo". MDG has to be part of the modern culture or minds set and redirect people to new habits and lifestyle. Or else these goals will remain as slogans in bureaucrats and businessmen's briefcases as the world continue to crumble around them."
